Robin’s introduction to Pilates began in New York City in 1967. Having been diagnosed with severe scoliosis of the spine (at the age of 14) for which the treatment was a full body brace from the neck to the hips worn 23 hours a day 7 days a week, Robin’s ballet teacher suggested a method called Pilates. Carola Trier, a first generation teacher, had a studio in Manhattan, her area of expertise was working with ballet dancers with injuries. Upon meeting Carola, it was decided that Robin commute from her home in Long Island to New York City, 2 days a week to train at Mrs. Trier’s studio. Those biweekly visits continued for 3 years until the brace and Pilates had done their best. The rest as they say is history.
Robin returned to Pilates in 1998 and was certified through Physical Mind, followed by a second certification through Power Pilates in 2000. She ran a studio that was an affiliate of Power Pilates where fledgling students could come and observe certified teachers work with clients. Robin continues her own practice at least 4-5 days a week.
